Arkansas / passenger-car renewal
Arkansas vehicle registration fee calculator
Arkansas's ordinary passenger-car registration fee depends on empty weight: $17, $25 or $30. The validation decal costs another $2.50. Electric and hybrid vehicles may owe an additional $50 to $200. These state registration lines are separate from the county personal-property assessment and tax clearance required to renew.
Reviewed October 1, 2026 against the Arkansas DFA fee schedule and the 2026 Arkansas Legislative Tax Handbook.
Calculate an ordinary annual renewal
A gas passenger car at 3,000 pounds or less has a $19.50 modeled subtotal: $17 registration plus $2.50 decal. A fully electric passenger car at 4,501 pounds or more without a qualifying special plate has a $232.50 subtotal: $30 registration, $2.50 decal and $200 electric-vehicle fee. These are not final DFA bills.
Use the passenger-car empty-weight bands
- 3,000 pounds or less: $17 annual registration.
- 3,001 through 4,500 pounds: $25 annual registration.
- 4,501 pounds or more: $30 annual registration.
Arkansas's DFA motor-vehicle fee schedule lists a $2.50 validation decal for passenger cars. Trucks and vans have a separate class and price; this calculator's passenger-car weight table does not price those vehicles. An online or mailed transaction may add a delivery or processing amount that depends on how the tag is renewed.
Check the powertrain and plate exception
The 2026 Arkansas Legislative Tax Handbook, section 6.8, sets the extra registration charge by powertrain: $200 when the car runs only on electricity, $100 when it is a plug-in hybrid and $50 when it is a conventional hybrid. It also describes an exemption for an electric or hybrid vehicle registered with a qualifying military-service or veterans plate, or a qualifying special plate with a permanent decal. If the plate status is unknown, the calculator leaves this additional fee unresolved.
Gas and diesel passenger cars have no electric/hybrid addition. Specialty plate contributions can have their own fees even if the vehicle has no extra powertrain fee; confirm the plate with DFA.
County assessment comes before renewal
The Arkansas DFA renewal instructions require the owner to assess the vehicle with the county assessor and pay personal-property taxes owed before tag renewal. The property-tax amount varies by vehicle and locality, so this calculator does not treat it as zero or blend it into the state registration fee. First registration can also include title, state and local sales/use tax, plate transfer or late charges; use the agency quote worksheet for an actual transaction amount.
