Idaho / annual light-vehicle renewal

Idaho vehicle registration fee calculator

Idaho's annual age-based registration is $69 for a vehicle one or two years old, $57 for ages three through six, or $45 for age seven and older. A plug-in hybrid adds $75 per year and a fully electric vehicle adds $140. County and local charges must be checked separately.

Reviewed October 1, 2026 using current ITD guidance and Idaho Code 49-402. The model covers an ordinary full-year renewal at a maximum gross weight of 8,000 pounds.

Use the age class recorded by DMV

Transaction type

Use the registration period start for dated fuel surcharges; some state fields separately ask for expiration or assessment year. Blank uses today. Unpublished successor fees require an agency assessment.

Annual passenger/light-vehicle renewal with maximum gross weight of 8,000 lb. Other weights and terms use a different schedule.

Use the county handling the transaction. A title administration fee is a separate charge.

Use the applicable local amount, including $0 only if confirmed. This is separate from county administration.

Choose the DMV age band and propulsion, then enter confirmed county administration and highway-district amounts. Blank local inputs stay unresolved.

Two local lines can appear on the same renewal

A county registration administration fee pays for the transaction. A local highway-district registration fee is a different obligation. Entering one does not resolve the other. ITD publishes a county administration table; for example, its current registration column lists $9.50 for Ada and Canyon and $8 for Bonneville. The same table has separate title administration and total-title columns that should not be used for a routine renewal.

The processing channel matters. ITD says county administration fees continue to apply to transactions handled through its phone queue, and Ada administration fees apply to its virtual lobby even for customers from another county. Kiosk transactions can carry vendor and card-processing charges. Use the amount for the actual transaction rather than inferring every charge from the owner's address.

As a calculation example, a seven-year-or-older gas car with a confirmed $9.50 county fee and no applicable highway-district fee has $45 + $1.25 + $9.50 = $55.75 in the modeled components. A plug-in hybrid with the same inputs has $130.75; a fully electric car has $195.75. Other notice charges remain outside those subtotals.

No renewal sticker does not mean no renewal payment

Beginning July 1, 2026, Idaho stopped issuing annual registration stickers and ended routine ten-year plate replacement. Drivers still have to keep registration current. ITD's explanation distinguishes the physical plate from the registration record that law enforcement can verify electronically.

Do not add a recurring replacement-plate fee solely because a plate is ten years old. A lost, damaged or special plate can involve a different transaction. Similarly, an optional Parks Passport is an election, not part of the age-based base used here.

This page does not treat a two-year renewal as automatically twice the displayed total, because vehicle age and per-transaction charges can affect the calculation. Use ITD's estimator for a different term, first registration or weight class, or record its itemized result in the Idaho quote worksheet.
