Oregon / two-year passenger renewal

Oregon vehicle registration fee calculator

Oregon renewal depends on the combined MPG category assigned to the VIN, whether an eligible vehicle is enrolled in OReGO, and the county where you live or keep the vehicle. This estimate uses the current two-year schedule, including the high-MPG and electric supplement already in force.

ODOT schedules and fee-change guidance checked October 1, 2026.

Calculate the registration components

Transaction type

Use the registration period start for dated fuel surcharges; some state fields separately ask for expiration or assessment year. Blank uses today. Unpublished successor fees require an agency assessment.

Current schedule checked October 1, 2026; excludes new four-year MCO registrations.

Use the combined rating assigned to the VIN. Do not use actual dashboard MPG or electric MPGe.

The reduced registration fee applies to 40+ MPG and fully electric vehicles. Mileage charges are separate.

Existing ordinary passenger vehicle, full two-year renewal under the current 2026 schedule. New vehicles with a Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin receive a different four-year registration.

The VIN's MPG category controls the fee

Two-year passenger renewal is $126 at 0–19 MPG and $136 at 20–39 MPG. Without OReGO enrollment, the current amounts are $216 for 40+ MPG and $376 for fully electric vehicles. County charges are additional. Electric MPGe is not the gasoline MPG input.

DMV uses the manufacturer's combined rating assigned to the VIN. Actual mileage displayed on the dashboard, a highway-only rating and a driver's recent fuel log cannot select this registration category. When a model has several engines or trims, match the VIN rather than relying on the model name alone.

ODOT's January 2026 guidance distinguishes suspended HB 3991 increases from charges already effective. The additional $30 per year for 40+ MPG and electric passenger vehicles took effect December 31, 2025. It is already inside the $216 and $376 two-year amounts; adding another $60 would count it twice. The separate used-EV transition starts July 1, 2027 and is not used for a 2026 renewal.

County fees and worked examples

The two-year county addition is $112 for Multnomah and $60 for Washington or Clackamas. The rule considers where the owner lives and/or the vehicle stays. Choose the relevant county even when a mailing address alone might suggest another location.

A 30-MPG passenger car in Multnomah has $136 + $112 = $248 in registration components. A 45-MPG car in Washington County without OReGO has $216 + $60 = $276. A fully electric car in another Oregon county without OReGO has $376 before any separate transaction charges.

An ordinary renewal does not automatically require a new title or new license plates. DEQ testing, specialty plates and replacements can change the amount you pay. A new vehicle with a Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin receives four-year registration and doubles the registration and county term charges; it should not be entered as this two-year renewal.

A lower registration bill is not the full cost of OReGO

Confirmed enrollment reduces the two-year registration component for an eligible 40+ MPG or fully electric vehicle to $86. Thus, an enrolled electric vehicle in Multnomah has an $86 + $112 = $198 registration subtotal. OReGO road-use billing remains separate.

ODOT currently describes a two-cent-per-mile program charge. The $198 example is therefore not a claim that enrollment saves that vehicle's owner money overall. Compare expected mileage, any applicable fuel-tax credits and your actual account terms. Vehicles in the 20–39 MPG band do not receive this high-MPG registration reduction in the calculator.

Provide enrollment confirmation before paying DMV. An older FAQ table still shows previous non-enrolled rates; the current DMV fee schedule and dated ODOT fee-change notice control the amounts used here.
