Use the registration period start for dated fuel surcharges; some state fields separately ask for expiration or assessment year. Blank uses today. Unpublished successor fees require an agency assessment.

The $251 electric rate already includes the $100 annual EV addition. Other special plates and Benefit Access discounts need SOS confirmation.

The $251 electric renewal already contains the surcharge

The SOS electric plate guide gives an annual renewal amount of $251. Adding another $100 to that amount would count the EV charge twice. The guide also lists $416 for a newly acquired vehicle's title and first registration: $165 title plus $251 registration. Buying a car and renewing an existing registration are different transactions.

This calculator's electric option uses the random-number EV plate schedule. For a different specialty plate, use its individual SOS plate guide and renewal notice.

Check why a quote differs from the annual plate fee

The SOS basic fee list separates renewal from title, replacement sticker and replacement plate charges. A routine renewal does not automatically require a new $165 title. For example, the state registration line for an ordinary gas passenger car is $151, while the published newly acquired standard title-and-registration combination is $316 before transaction-specific taxes or other amounts.

A municipality may have its own vehicle sticker or license requirement. Check the local government's current rules for your address and keep that charge separate from the SOS amount. Older adults and people with disabilities who have an approved Benefit Access discount should use the discounted agency notice. The tool does not infer program eligibility from age alone. If your bill includes a discount or an uncommon plate, record it in the Illinois agency quote worksheet.
