West Virginia / annual standard Class A plate

West Virginia registration renewal fee calculator

A standard graphic Class A plate renews for $51.50 for one full year. The published schedule adds $100 for a hybrid or $200 for an electric or other alternative-fuel vehicle. The $51.50 already includes the $1 litter and $0.50 insurance enforcement components.

Current DMV registration guidance and its linked fee brochure checked October 1, 2026. DMV's August 2026 plate announcement also confirms the regular $51.50 annual amount.

Use the registration period start for dated fuel surcharges; some state fields separately ask for expiration or assessment year. Blank uses today. Unpublished successor fees require an agency assessment.

Ordinary full one-year renewal with the standard graphic Class A passenger plate, at or below 10,000 pounds GVW. Special plates and other terms need their own schedule.

Do not add the $1.50 twice

The fee brochure states that its published schedule includes the litter and insurance enforcement components where required. Starting from $51.50 and adding another $1 plus $0.50 would overstate the standard renewal. This calculator uses one base line for the full published amount.

For a conventional gas car, the supported annual registration component is $51.50. A hybrid has $51.50 + $100 = $151.50. A fully electric or qualifying alternative-fuel vehicle has $51.50 + $200 = $251.50. These are ordinary full-year examples, without prorating or an unusual plate.

A personalized, scenic, military or other special plate can have a different renewal price, a reservation fee or an exemption. New-plate and renewal columns are not interchangeable. DMV's 2026 America's 250th plate announcement, for example, describes a $10 scenic charge in addition to the regular annual amount. That does not mean every standard plate owes the scenic addition.

The calculator intentionally uses the standard graphic plate. Compare your actual plate category against the brochure before applying its result, and use the West Virginia quote worksheet for another plate or a partial-year transaction.

A tax receipt proves payment; it is not a new flat DMV fee

DMV registration instructions require appropriate personal-property-tax documentation or an affidavit of exemption. County vehicle property tax is separate from the standard registration amount. A prior tax payment shown on a receipt should not be added again as a newly due renewal charge.

Check the current renewal instructions for the documentation applicable to the requested term. If county tax is still due, obtain the county's assessed amount; this calculator does not infer an assessment from the purchase price or invent one statewide levy.

Inspection, insurance coverage and registration are also separate requirements. A receipt showing the known registration component does not confirm that the vehicle has passed inspection or met insurance requirements. A purchase can additionally require a title and privilege-tax treatment, which are not ordinary annual renewal lines.
